Song for Clay Miller 7in

This backer-only song from the Kickstarter campaign is the Native Sound’s first release! It’s printed as a beautiful yellow or translucent flexi 7″ with really nice artwork. You can stream it here or buy it at The Native Sound. The B-side is the unreleased “Vitas At Wimbledon.” This is SUPER limited, the green flexis sold out right away.

“How The West Was Won” is UP!!

NPR Music just posted my new video
!! Shot at Tiny Telephone and starring all your favorite creatures…

A few notes from me:
“I wanted to make a performance video that was more like a documentary of recording at Tiny Telephone. Jake kept everything naturalistic and loose. I love the musicians and engineers who work at the studio and just wanted show them at work, doing the heavy lifting on records, obsessing about their craft, eating delicious tacos, and having a blast doing it.”

And from Jake Wachtel, the amazing director:
“JV recorded Dagger Beach at Tiny Telephone studios in SF, which he also runs. This is just an awesome, inspiring place to make music (I just had the pleasure of mixing my own album there!); its chock full of incredibly beautiful analog gear and there’s a palpable sense of family among all the engineers who work there. So the idea of the music video was to try to capture the vibe of this specific place and family, and also to give a little glimpse into all the crazy behind the scenes work that goes into making a record—hooking innumerable cables into the patch bay, fixing the synth right before the session started, swabbing the tape machine with a q-tip, trekking out into the mission district to refuel with abundant burritos, hanging out in the control room and dissecting the philosophical underpinnings of Karate Kid (see if you can catch drummer Jason Slota’s wax-on moment). All of these tactile, physical moments from the recording session are there when you listen to a piece of music, folded into the fabric of the recording. We wanted to give these moments their due.”

Diamond Dogs Release show!! Radio Silence w/ Daniel Handler

I’m playing a pretty wonderful benefit with Daniel Handler in San Francisco on May 13th at a loft in the Mission. Details below. Tickets are here.

Music!
This event is the record release party for John Vanderslice’s forthcoming remake of David Bowie’s classic 1974 album Diamond Dogs! JV will perform from the record and from his forthcoming album of originals, Dagger Beach, which releases to the public on June 11. We’ll have both records available at the Loft Party for purchase and signing. And as if it couldn’t get any better, Daniel Handler is going to bring his accordion and perform a couple songs with JV!? Pat Spurgeon of Rogue Wave will be spinning records for us.

Literature!
Daniel Handler will kick things off with a reading and a bit of conversation before joining JV with the accordion. Daniel is a Radio Silence contributor and author of the novels The Basic Eight, Watch Your Mouth, Adverbs, and Why We Broke Up. As Lemony Snicket, he has written many books for children, including Who Could That Be at This Hour? and The Dark. Daniel’s books will be available for purchase and signing.

Food and Drink!
Included in the entry cost is a catered dinner, which will be served from 7-8 pm. Drinks will be served all night, and they’re free — beer by Magnolia, wine by Sutton Cellars, booze by Anchor Distillery. The incomparable Daniel Hyatt, formerly of the Alembic and soon to open Roka Akor, will be mixing cocktails.

This Shit Is Getting Realer.

Okay we are in full lock-down shipping mode. Thank god the NBA playoffs have so beautifully coincided with my mail-order phase.

I’ve shipped:

JV RARITIES – PERSONALIZED CD-R

DAGGER BEACH CD

LIBRARY CARD T-SHIRT

JV RECORD BOOKSHELF T-SHIRT

The BEST DEAL!!! T-SHIRT + DAGGER BEACH on CD reward will ship this week. All of the 8 Second Songs are done, some are posted below

If I messed up your order in ANY WAY just write me and I’ll fix it!! Maybe you don’t like my Baroque signature all over your beautiful record? I am here to provided a 5 star customer experience. Actually, fuck 5 stars. SEVEN STARS.

If you haven’t received your survey, it’s okay, I’m spreading them out as I get a lot of tweaks and questions about orders (which is fine) when I do. ALL SURVEYS WILL BE SENT BY END OF THIS WEEK. I’ll keep updating when I send out stuff so you can keep tabs on it. A few of you have not filled out the surveys on the above merchandise. Please do it when you can. Check your spam folder if you don’t see it or just email me direct. (jv@tinytelephone.com)

I’m waiting for Dagger Beach vinyl to arrive any day now. I’ll ship that out right away. Diamond Dogs vinyl got delayed. More on that soon. The vinyl cases are presently getting personalized by Joe Williams.

My goal is to get the download link up by next monday, I am conveniently re-doing the Tiny Telephone website this week, so that’s the hold up.

In non-Kickstarter news, I’m going to see the Giants play the Diamondbacks tonight with a bunch of engineers from the studio. SF is seeing record high temps. Yes we are all doomed but yes I’ll take the hot weather if there is no other choice

Below: Your stuff, Harden getting whipped by the Thunder (that was tough to watch), my home recording studio, where I made all of your 8 Second Songs.
