Stream “I’ll Wait For You” at Stereogum

Hey everyone! Stereogum is premiering my new single, “I’ll Wait For You,” today!!

180g QRP Vinyl Preorder at Undertow

Digital Preorder on Bandcamp

My new record is called The Cedars and it’s out on Native Cat Recordings on April 5! The record was produced by James Riotto and Rob Shelton, two stone-cold geniuses. We did it in all three rooms at Tiny Telephone over 50+ days. It wasn’t easy or pretty but I love this record SO MUCH!!!! We have a mini-doc directed by Cooper Kenward coming out soon about the making of the record.

“I’ll Wait For You” features Madeline Kenney on vocals and John McEntire from Tortoise and Stereolab on Drums.

This record would NOT have been possible without the help of Native Cat. They’ll have great releases coming out this year from Meernaa, Sis, and Luke Temple.

I was joined on this record by many friends and collaborators: Jason Slota, Sami Perez, Andrew Maguire, Jenny Mason, Joe Adamik, and Derek Barber.

A few words about the title: I own a small piece of land in very rural West Sonoma and from the very top of this land you can see a strange, Mars-like serpentine canyon called The Cedars. Roughly 11×11 square miles in size, it’s a land-locked geological anomaly that has over a dozen endemic trees and plants. It’s only 6 miles away but it takes up a mythic space in my mind, like the perfect sound, the perfect lyric. A lot of this record was written on this land, under the spell of this place.

I’ll be announcing a West Coast headlining tour for April soon… Also, I’ll be at SXSW this year playing tons of parties. Living Room shows with Undertow Music will happen in SE and TX in summer.

TTO 1st Anniversary Party!

PLEASE come to this. The fantastic Meerna features two engineers from the studio (Rob Shelton and Carly Bond) and Jason Slota on drums.  DJ Joshua Rampage is a bad ass. This is going to be a blow out, come early and stay late, it will go past midnight for sure. We’ll have free beer 🙂

Tiny Telephone Oakland finally feels dialed in after a year, we’d love to show it to you.

The studio is in North Oakland, there is easy parking here. See you soon!!

Tiny Telephone Oakland Sneak Peek!!!!

PLEASE come to this, it’s going to be such a fun party. EVERYONE is invited. We’ll be playing 1/2″ master tapes in the control room, and we’ll end the night with a dance party. The bands are SUPER good, it’s a stunning lineup. Sonny and the Sunsets are a tremendously creative and fun band. The She’s have been touring quite a bit and it shows: they sound great. The food and beer will be wonderful. Please bring any alcohol you like, we usually run out of beer at some point. Come early if you can, The She’s will start at 8:30pm. Tiny Telephone Oakland opens officially on January 1st, but this will be a great opportunity to see the studio and hang out with all of the great people that work there.

Tiny Telephone Oakland Kickstarter is ON!!!!!!

Hello everyone, I’m building an amazing recording studio in Oakland and I need your help.

The Tiny Telephone Oakland Kickstarter is ON!

I’m pretty damn excited about this. I’m also very (reasonably) nervous. Please take a look at the page, and PLEASE repost on Facebook or the social media engine of your choice.

The studio is ahead of schedule. The air conditioning and electrical are done, we’re starting on the 3 month process of complicated finish work and acoustic treatments. The goal of our Kickstarter’s is to pay our amazing construction crew for one month of work.

Without your help, this studio will not be finished. There are so many cool rewards, including the chance to pre-buy days at a $100 discount. Please RT/repost, etc. You know what to do. This studio is going to be an amazing place for artists. Thank you!!!!!!

Mass Suicide Occult Figurines reissued on 200g QRP vinyl!!

My first solo record, Mass Suicide Occult Figurines, originally released by Barsuk in 2000, is getting reissued by the Native Sound. The preorder link is now LIVE. We remastered it with Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service. I think it sounds oh so much better. Bob also cut the lacquer. QRP, of Solina, KS, is doing the vinyl. They are clearly the best pressing plant in the world right now. The entire run will be 200g black vinyl. The only way to fly.

SO… all the details!

  • First time ever on vinyl (200g QRP, booyaaa)
  • Brand new art by the legendary Joe Williams.
  • Deluxe LP includes screen-printed wrap around slip cover & a bonus 7” flexi featuring a new song (“Midnight Blue”) & an unreleased Songs: Ohia cover
  • Vinyl “Starter Pack” including past JV releases is also available

The flexi songs are really special. I’m really proud of the way all of this came together. Julio at The Native Sound has done a wonderful job with the reissue. Let’s reward his faith in excellent sounding reissues by locking one up!!!
